Absolute Masterpiece.

It has influenced thousands and thousands of films and the greatest thing is that, it still feels new and original in spite of so many derivative work from it. I'm sure the Nolanites, Fincherites and Andersonites have never seen this.

I'd rate it 7.8/10

It's a very unusual film. The narration is not simply narration, he even gives some advice to characters from time to time, the film I think is filmed entirely in New York City, sad because that city is long gone and it looks amazing, the acting is good with the standout being Barry Fitzgerald as Lt Muldoon and the murder mystery is interesting but it is the city, the atmosphere, the procedural structure, that make the film so compelling. I give it a solid 8/10 and I am very tempted to buy the Criterion blu ray and watch it again.

I don't consider it a masterpiece, but I thought it was an entertaining, well made film. I rated it an 8/10.
