don't get me wrong, i love this movie, but the characters sometimes can be a bit dislikable. Jim Blandings seems quite cold towards his children and Muriel seems pretty materialistic and demanding

I thought the same thing. Not a classic in my book, because the characters aren't very likeable.

I didn't know anybody still said "don't get me wrong." You sound like you're from a 1940s crime drama. I mean that as a compliment.
