Original House that was to be torn down?

Any info on the original house that was to be torn down? Was all that a set, the barn and such - or was that a real property somewhere?

The house that the Blandings built is supposedly on Chantilly in Bel Air. I heard that RKO gave it away in a contest and the winner had it trucked to a vacant lot. The neighborhood sprung up around it. No idea whether the story is true or apocryphal but there is a house on Chantilly that resembles it.

I wish someone would actually pay attention and answer the question that the OP actually asked. It was about the *original* house that was torn down, not the new one that they built. I was curious about that too. We're talking about the dilapidated house, about which everyone said "Tear it down!" I was wondering if they really found a house that bad, or if they actually built a whole house (or half a house-- we only ever see two sides) expressly built that rickety and falling-over.
