Jules Munshin--comedic genius

Jules Munshin's bit making a salad is truly brillian comedy. The drollery, the understatement with which he pantomimes... This bit is comedic genius. You have to go far to find anything that matches this. The only other piece of comedy that even comes close is the closing scene from "Pirates of Penzance" when the pirates, the constables, the daughters, transform themselves into burbling brooks, waving willows, and billowing grasses whilst the Modern Major General thinks he is alone--Brilliant comedy from Gilbert and Sullivan. And Jules Munshin surely matches that level of genius.

An oddly placed scene that probably fought to be kept from the cutting room floor. I was so unusual that keeping it was a good decision.

It's always interesting to hear other points of views. Although I appreciate your take on Jules Munshin's performance I just saw it a completely opposite way. It didn't amuse me one bit, but I don't usually like this kind of stand up comedy. I like comedy that flows up of a situation such as The Awlful Truth. I enjoyed Munshin's performance in On The Town but just didn't find this bit funny but I glad you did!

I watched "Easter Parade" in a theater tonight, and this is one of the several scenes which the live audience applauded.

BTW, my wife pointed out that in the final scene, Judy offers her right hand for the ring, and Fred insists on putting the ring on her left hand. My wife says, "She'll never get confused about right and left again."

Pretend something clever is written here.

Munshin was incredible! The trivia section mentions that he is one of the sailors in "On The Town", alongside Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. I almost want to re-watch that movie after having just seen his great work in Easter Parade!

I've seen this film a dozen times at least...why can't I remember the salad scene???

I prefer fantasy over reality TV - like Fox News. - B.Streisand

He's also one of the three Soviet guys who come to Paris to bring Cyd Charisse back to Moscow in "Silk Stockings".
