Preminger's Laura was a MONSTER hit for Fox and three years later we have this film. Too many elements from the same film including a portrait that doesn't even mean anything. Victor was just another Waldo Lydecker. If I was the producer of Laura, I'd sue.

Not only is it a steal from Laura, but it's a bad steal. Joan Caulfield and Michael North (whoever that is) must be two of the most wooden leads in 1940s movies.
Calling Joan Caulfield "wooden" is an insult to trees!
I was actually hoping that Victor would succeed in killing her.
It's weird that I keep reading this Laura ripoff bit but having seen this film tonight I never really thought about Laura at all. I guess there's a painting on the wall, but that's a typical device used in lots of films. And at the beginning Joan Caufield's character is presumed dead like Laura, but this isn't really a big deal and the film isn't about that.
