Gregory Peck's Character Was Not Very Likeable!

Gregory Peck rubbed me the wrong way through this whole movie, even more so because I think he's supposed to be seen as the hero. While his view towards anti-semitism is certainly the morally correct one, the way he treats people who disagree with him even a little is bothersome.

He expects his new fiancee Kathy to totally go along with his plan to be Jewish for several months, asking her to lie to her friends and family about who he is. Then when she balks a bit, he bites her head off. This is no small thing he's asking. After she introduces him, people are going to want to know about his family, where he's from, what his parents, do, etc. He's going to have to make up this elaborate lie about who he is, and Kathy is just expected to lie right along with him, all for a story he's writing. I wanted to tell Kathy to run, fast. He's going to be like this through your whole marriage, expecting you to give in to all his decisions without a word of dissent.

Then the way he treats his secretary is way out of line. I don't care if she does use terms or words you don't like, you don't lay your hands on a co-worker like that! The way he grabs her by the arms and manhandles her! I don't think so.

Peck is bossy, self-righteous and preachy through this whole film.
