Geez, How Many COI's and Breaches of Ethics?!?

I know it takes place in a small town, but I think you need an awful lot of suspension of disbelief to buy that Judge Timberlane could still do his job without getting kicked off the bench. Talk about conflicts of interest.

I thought the film was odd in that Ginny (Turner), after marrying Cass, never really seemed like a girl from the other side of the tracks. You never see where she doesn't fit in, for all her glamor and charm. There's just no real tension between her and the snobby country club set.

Also, what's with the Walter Pidgeon cameo? That was strange! I mean, did he need a few extra bucks, or was it something of an in-joke in the film?

And, as much as I love Spencer Tracy, to me he was sort of sleepwalking through this movie--he had so much spark and verve, but in this role he's more like a benevolent, disciplining uncle.

It's always a pleasure to see such actors together, including Zachary Scott, but this movie just lacked the kind of tension and spark that would have kicked it up a notch, beyond a "B" type tearjerker (with an A-list cast).
