Is this such an unknown and forgotten movie..
I consider it one of the very good Christmas movies with a great cast, a good story...I am surprised nobody's talking about it.

shareI always talk about it. It's one of my favorites. We watch it every Christmas.
shareHey, Blanche, I'm glad there's some of us around to talk about and enjoy it.
BTW, any opinion on how it compares with The Preacher's Wife. I do consider this much better although I did enjoy Whitney Houston's singng in the remake.
Little Elf Judy: Seeing isn't believing. Believing is seeing.
The Preacher's Wife was one of the few remakes of old movies that comes close to being as good as the original. But in this case, the original is still much better, and is one of the best movies I have seen. Cary Grant played the part so perfectly, I can't imagine anyone doing it better.
shareThe only good thing about "The Preacher's Wife" is that it made me
aware of the far better original movie "The Bishop's Wife". In a futile
attempt to act suave and debonair like Cary Grant, Denzel Washington only
looked and acted goofy and clumsy.
Hey hey, I still liked Whitney Houston's singing in The Preacher's Wife. Other than that, yes, The Bishop's Wife was far superior.
BTW, I just borrowed the Robert Nathan novel from the library and might start a thread about that.
And anyone who sees this, if you're online at midnight New Year's Eve, pop in on my party on the Sandbox thread. It's international...I hope for people showing up all 24 hours long. Ho, Ho, Ho!

I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't know "The Bishop's Wife". Every person agrees that this is vastly better than the remake. As for Whitney Houston: For me, she stopped being a good singer when she started attempting vocal gymnastics that are irritating, not enjoyable. Up until then, I was a fan. As for her movies... Uck! I'll stick with "The Bishop's Wife".
Actually, I'm watching it right now.
I do think that Teresa Wright would have been interesting and perhaps more believable in the title role. I like Loretta Young, but Teresa is a very special actress. For one thing, Teresa Wright has more of a girl-next-door look, not the glamour girl that Loretta Young always seemed to come across as, even in her milder roles. Teresa really might have seemed a wife to be taken for granted, meek and mild. (Yes, I'm a fan! "Shadow of a Doubt" is one of my favorite Hitchcock films.)
