Why not more well known

I just saw this film for the first time.. and my question is this: Why don't they show this film all over the place instead of that God Awful Miricle on 34th Street (I really hate that movie).

"The Bishop's Wife" was made by RKO, which no longer exists, so there's no studio backing for any publicity. The release of the DVD went almost unnoticed. But it's showing up more and more each year. I've managed to see it on TV every year for about 5 years now.

I agree. One of my favorite Christmas movies. Every bit as good and inspiring as It's a Wonderful Life with an equally impressive cast. Maybe one day it will catch on - remember, I'ts a Wondeful Life was originally considered to be less than a success. It gained a cult following in the 80's and 90's before becoming a holiday tradition.

I agree with the 1st part but not the 2nd. "Miracle" is a fantastic joyous movie.

Back to the point, we just need to push BW to other people to get the word out.

The ironic thing is this is very much a Christmas movie, but you can see it all times of year on AMC or TCM or whomever it is that shows it.

Meanwhile, the overrated (IMO) "It's a Wonderful Life" is NOT really a Christmas movie. But you can't see it any time except Christmas (notwithstanding 1 network now "owns" it, so they control where it is; I mean even before that), because 15/20 years ago it suddenly became big and touted as a "Christmas movie" because of the angel meeting occuring at Christmas.

I love both "Miracle" and "Wonderful Life". I mean, face it, Capra made cheese, but it was really great cheese, and Jimmie Stewart was just the average American to perfection, just as Harrison Ford is now. The one that I gripe about is "A Christmas Story." I rather loathe it. This, on the other hand, is immediately right up there with Grinch and Peanuts and certain editions of A Christmas Carol, plus the other two complained against here. REALLY loved Bishop's Wife, what a fantastic, well-made, and touching film. Who was better than Cary Grant, when he wanted to be on?
