Quesion on First 15 minutes (SPOILER WARNING)

I missed the first part until the aunt is killed and falls down the stairs. Can anyone give a summary to that point.

Aunt was mean to Martha. Martha was a pissed off little sociopath. Aunt was mean to Martha's cat. Martha flipped out and hit aunt in the head, causing her to fall down stairs and die. Martha's friend Sam runs away. Martha's other friend Walter and Walter's father take over Martha's life. Years later, they all lie about some random guy being the aunt's killer and he ends up being hanged. Walter's father blackmails Martha into marrying Walter. Everybody is miserable. Sam shows up in town. Complications ensue. Lizabeth Scott shows up. More complications. Everything goes to hell.
