shareThat's what I thought
I'm watching "Rebecca" right now. She was wonderful in that role--so creepy and menacing. I think she should have won the Oscar.
shareShe is also a Nazi Nurse in Where Eagles Dare. They are in the castle basement and the nurse is there to administer sodium pentathol
shareWe watched this movie for the first time last night. After seeing Judith Anderson for 5 seconds, we both said "Frau Bluecher!"
shareShe's not in Where Eagles Dare. But I agree she played that type of role very well, it's the role she became most famous for. But she also played nice women too.
shareI thought that she was so wonderful here! I love this lady!

Anderson and Stanwyck face off for real in THE FURIES where Missy stabs Dame Judy's eye out with a pair of shears!
Fabulous!

The most profound of sin is tragedy unremembered.
It's been a while since I've seen Rebecca, but I recall the big difference between her character in that and in this being that the former was more -- for want of a better word -- passive. She lurked and watched, then struck when the time was right, altho her manipulation of Fontaine was more 'active' I guess. But Mrs. Ivers ruled that town with an all-knowing, very involved, iron fist. And, of course, the scope of her power was much wider, encompassing an entire small city.
Another terrific Anderson performance is in The Red House -- taking on Edgar G. Robinson, no less! Terrific 'rural noir.'

Edward.
shareI was reminded of her Mrs Danvers in 'Rebecca' as I watched this. She played this type of character so well. It's almost a pity that the story required that she had to exit this movie in the early stages.
