Will this ever get a DVD release?
I caught this film on a public broadcasting channel one rainy afternoon and fell in love; the music, the story, the wonderful direction, everything seemed to add up to a near perfect film. I quickly looked the film up and found out that it was a box office smash in England and did fairly well over here, claiming an Oscar and launching the career of a young James Mason. One would think that this film would have a DVD release, right? To my surprise, the only way to see this movie is to either buy a Region 2 disc or purchase one of the old VHS/Laserdisc copies (thank goodness I invested in a Laserdisc player!).
This is one of those "harass Criterion till you get an answer" films for me, but do others feel the same? There seems to be such a lack of interest in bringing this movie to a U.S. audience that I wonder whether a release will ever be a reality. And that would be very sad.
Me? I'm a sort of scholar. And my major is you.
