CRAP ending!!

There, I posted it. And I know I'm not the only one who hated the ending.

First of all--no matter how the story actually ended, we should have at least gotten a close-up.

Second, CRAP!!

Spoiler below
vvvvvvvvvvvvv

Had I attended a test screening of this film, I would have been arrested for the violent reaction I had having to stomach the thought of this women submitting herself a lifetime of psychological abuse just so she could contiue to play the piano. I would have torn up the screen and smashed the projector.

No silly goose, This is a romantic fantasy with a ridiculous plot and ending. It's wonderful, not everything has to be real life. Not to mention that it is inconceivable that any woman at all would walk away from James Mason in his prime. Simply the most beautiful man ever to grace the silver screen.

Movie girl: At the age of 11 or 12 I first saw this film. It was the early 60's and I recall our mother telling my older sister and me about the superb James Mason. The three of us sat enraptured before the TV set and I found myself watching the TV Guide for more James Mason and Ann Todd films. I was very impressed...

I re-watched and loved this film later in my mid-teens and had pretty much the same feeling of adoration and later as an adult.
At all 3 stages of my life I was very impressed by the superb James Mason's performance and the wonderful Ann Todd. As time went
on it seems that I am even more discerning in my judgment. Like my mother before
me I love this film. It embodies romance and charm.

And though there were many fine actors in the 1940's I do not think the depth of the film could ever have been enacted so well I read that The Seventh Veil along with Odd Man Out, were among James Mason's favorites of his wonderful and prestigious acting career..

I personally love the ending of the film - where Ann Todd loses the veil of uncertainty; she discovers her great love for her once strict guardian, Nicholas Cunningham. James Mason gives a marvelous performance as Nicholas. And conversely, Nicholas finally removes his invisible veil of dislike of love and intimacy. (This had been caused by his mother who had deserted her family when he was young). Now our Nicholas realizes his overwhelming love and admiration for his talented and beautiful ward.

Ann Todd gives a uniquely marvelous performance as the talented Francesca Cunningham who has reached a crossroads of her life as well.

When faced with the possibility of losing his ward, Nicholas begins to reveal his feelings. The same holds true of Francesca, though she mistakenly runs away twice (with a different man). Later Francesca sees her true feelings which lifts her "heavy veil of depression". These two are madly in love and will marry soon!

We meet once again, mcannady1,

Agreed, the end was marvelous. In my opinion, the film looks at the darker elements of desire, control and ultimately, her freedom of being with the person who adores her. Besides, who could resist James Mason in his prime?

Movie girl: Yes, I am glad we meet again! Yes, I loved this film as a kid seeing it on TV and even hoped Francesca would choose Nicholas. Mom had seen the film and knew it would end that way.

Not really an oh, crap ending! Not to us! THe wonderful James Mason would be hard to resist. I liked Peter the bandleader and Max the painter, but I did want Francesca to be with Nicholas.

Have you seen (and probably yes!) the wonderful Odd Man Out with James? A friend out of state recommended it to me and somehow I had never watched it. IT is from a great novel by F. L. Green. Mason is really hard to resist in this film.

Have a good evening!

Mason is "hard to resist"? My dear, my dear, Mason's Johnny McQueen is simply the most beautiful man ever to be seen on the silver screen. Those eyes, those cheek bones, that mouth (x-rated). I must sit down now and breathe deeply. There, that's better.

Movie girl: Me too! THat's better! WHat a beautiful man! NEver saw one quite like that before! That is why I can watch and watch and watch. STill have to have more Johnny M. and Nicolas C. WAs there ever such a handsome man to be seen standing by the fence with Kathleen? How could she? But she removed herself too, as she could not bear to be around if he was not. A real X-rated muth too. Those eyes, those cheek bones, and of course, that velvety voice!

Yes, we know all about it, Hester. We James girls are devoted to our James - and that is easy. Stephen D. must be mine! You've got Captain Jerry, you know.

Talk soon! Visiting our Stephen D. tonight. What a guy! If I were Marian I would have fallen long before the rain barrel incident! Smelling salts all around.

Love, Clarissa who has kindly stolen some more James boys.
