Did Nancy kill Karen?

How did Karen die?

That thought hadn't occurred to me. Intriguing. I've already deleted the film from my DVR, but it would be curious to hear back the exact wording the mother used to describe Karen's death when she was giving Nancy the locket.

I saw it recently and hadn't thought about it at the time, but yes, you do wonder. As I recall, the mother just mentioned it as though she had died of natural causes. Offhand, I'd say there wasn't a connection, but with Nancy you never know!

That Nancy murdered Karen I think is highly implied.

he said "I think not."
And disappeared.

I assumed it was because of the war. I don't think they really give you any context though to determine one way or another. Considering that there was really no subtle hint at all that it was possible that Nancy did it and it didn't seem like Nancy had any reason to want to kill Karen (Karen wanted to give her nice things), I would lean more towards the war or natural causes.

I was wondering that, too. I just watched it, and the mean mom just mentioned in a throwaway line that the locket would have gone to Karen if she hadn't died. No mention of how or when she died. Nancy could have killed Karen, but I doubt it. She seemed to genuinely like Karen, and she didn't seem to blame Karen for the locket being taken away. I'm guessing Karen died of natural causes.

There's nothing in the movie that indicates how Karen died but, based on the casual way both her mother and Nancy refer to Karen being dead, it would appear there was nothing particularly unusual about her death. She probably just died of an illness.

Did Nancy kill Karen?
Nancy wouldn't have had any reason to kill her. Karen was her friend and the person who gave her the one thing that made her feel special; the locket. Then again, by all indications her boss, Barron, was good to her but she killed him and let someone else be executed for his death. She's not one to let anyone stand in her way.

In order for the story to unfold the way it does, Karen could not still be alive. No one in John's family knows anything about Nancy. We learn that early on in the movie. If Karen, his sister, would have been alive she would have known Nancy. I get the impression Nancy kept tabs on the family over the years somehow since she knows not only that Karen died but when.
