So what. Doesn't diminish the fact that IAWL is a great movie. Just happened to be up against one of the greatest of all time, TBYOOL.

Karolyn Grimes (ZuZu) explained it best...when "IAWL" came out in 1946, it didn't do well at the box office, because of the dark message (suicidal cynical man), that was just after the war, and audiences didn't want to see that, so it was shelved. That being said, it wound up being shown on television because it didn't cost the stations to air it, that's wen it gained an audience. "The Best Years of Our Lives" won the Oscar, and rightly so.
