Can anybody give me a reason to watch IAWL again this year?

It was a great movie the first 23 times I watched ---- then for the next 8 or 9 times I viewed it just out of a sense of tradition. The last two years I just was there while it ran in the background. Has anyone laid off watching this movie for a couple of years and came back to like it?

reply

Because it's a classic movie and so innocent.

reply

Well you could just watch the beginning and then the end...or at least the end.

I usually watch the last hour and 10 minutes starting when Uncle Billy loses the money. I've seen the entire film but it seems very long and choppy but being stretched over 3 hours with an hour of commercials doesn't help.

reply

Well, I doubt anyone is breaking your arm and forcing you to watch it. No law says you HAVE to.

I watch it every year. I can't start the CHRISTmas season without it! It's my all time favorite CHRISTmas movie!

i had the exact same experience. i still love it in the abstract but find it harder to commit to now. the movie that i really look forward watching every year is bad santa

just watched it again after a several year hiatus and enjoyed every minute of it. new plan is to not try and watch every year but maybe every few years or when i find someone who's never seen it and watch it with them.

Sometimes I'll take a year or two off and then come back to it. Then it's great all over again

Here's why: James Stewart's performance in the last 40 minutes or so of the movie -- beginning with his breakdown in front of his children -- is one of the greatest performances in American cinema. It gives a foreshadowing of another of his greatest performances -- in "Vertigo."

Get the newest colorized version in high def. As I type this, Vudu has it along with the black and white for $4.99. Yes, 2 for 1. It's the best colorization I've seen. While I still prefer the black and white, seeing it in color is interesting because it now looks more three dimensional is the best way I can put it.
