Uncle Billy not remembering where he lost the $8,000

He must really be absent minded if he has no recollection of taking the time to count the money at the bank. He and George go all over town retracing his steps but he should have remembered having the money in his hand as he filled out the deposit slip. There was no need to walk all over town.

When you get older you will realize that once you get older you get CRS, so this scene is totally understandable.

Yeah, I'm close to my late 40s and I'm starting to get "CRS" really bad, so I can really empathize with Uncle Billy in those scenes (I assume he's a bit older, maybe early to mid-50s?).

I've always felt bad for him though -- that scene where he starts sobbing with the squirrel crawling on his arm has always gotten to me.

I refer to it as "Sometimers Disease." Sometimes I remember, and sometimes I don't. I have always wondered if he was always like that to some degree and it was just getting worse as he got older. Or perhaps the death of his wife messed him up.

I feel bad for him too, but I love how the squirrel gets on his arm to comfort him... Don't cry daddy. It'll be alright. Squeakity Squeak Squeakum.

In addition to what's already been said, don't forget that Uncle Billy was always scatter brained. He forgot to attend George and Mary's wedding (and he even had a string on his finger as a reminder!)

Is very bad to steal Jobu's rum. Is very bad.

I routinely forget what I'm supposed to do when i get distracted. This was one of the most realistic scenes in this movie.

I always figured as meticulous as George was, he would have asked Uncle Billy something like, "What happened when you got to the bank? Who else did you talk to/interact with besides the bank teller"

Once Billy told George how he was teasing Potter about Harry being a war hero, George would be smart enough to realize Potter had something to do with the $ disappearing.

Proving it would have been a whole other thing though.

And what's more, when they raise thousands of dollars to save the day they trust Uncle Billy to carry the basket full of money. Don't these people learn anything? There was a good chance they would have ended up retracing his steps, trying to figure out where Uncle Billy left the basket.
