Can you find a wife like Mary today?

Who supports her husband through thick and thin and doesn't care how much he makes as long as he does the right thing?

Bitter much, little man?

Sure you can. Maybe it's more difficult today in the western world given how a focus on marriage and the family has seemed to fade in favor of career and self-fulfillment, for better or worse.

Sure! I think plenty of women out there would love their husbands through the good times and bad. Money certainty isn't everything. I'd live with my significant other in a box if I had to, as long as we were together.

Thanks, it's nice to know there are still such women out there.

Did we watch the same film? Mary got the life she wanted while George had to put all his dreams behind him. George wanted to live an extravagant life. Mary even made a wish to live in the home she knew George thought was a dive right after he said it was his dream to see the world. She basically wished for all Georges dreams not to come true. Mary was the first one to suggest they gave their honeymoon money away, she seemed very excited to stay home.

Why do people so frequently get told to read the book on a movie database?

That's the beauty of art, everybody views it differently. Yep, we saw the same movie however with distinct perspectives. My point is Mary was always there for George in rainy days; even when he was a total jerk but she helped him get out of difficult situations several times. Additionally, she made the house liveable, was a great wife, a good mother, didn't care about his job and how little he money he made from it, most of all she made things work for her family.

However, my question was can you find a life like Mary today, and not what kind of life she wanted.

Interesting point. Without George she would have married another man, for better or worse.

Wives like Mary need and deserve husbands like George Bailey.

reply

Now that's true.
If a man treats a woman like a doormat, that won't result in a 'Mary wife'.

If you hate feminists, you would hate Mary. She's a great feminist character. She's educated (She went to college and graduated. She has more education than her husband) and a quick thinker. Mary came up with the idea to give their honeymoon money to clients in order to keep the Building and Loan open. Mary is the one who made the necessary contacts to get enough money to keep her husband out of jail. Mary is as much a hero as George.

You would HATE Mary. That's probably why you'll die alone and single.
