No matter how many times i watch this movie, i still can't believe that angela lansbury was only 19 when she was in this movie. she looks more like 24 or something, i guess it's all the make-up and the wonderful costumes. but still, 19! wow. when you look at the roles that they put judy in when she was 19, it's mind blowing.
this has gotta be one of my all time favorites though!
Angela Lansbury often looked older then she already was so she was often cast older. When she did "The Manchurian Candidate" she was only thirty-six and she played the mother of Laurence Harvey who was thirty-three.

I have to admit, I haven't seen a lot of her earlier work but loved her since "Bedknobs and Broomsticks"

I remember seeing her in "National Velvet" and being a bit startled by how young she looked.
Whether she's 18 or 80, she's a lovely lady.
She does a nice little number (cameo) in 'Till the Clouds Roll By', which by the way also has great numbers (again, cameos) by Judy Garland and Cyd Charisse (not together). It's one of my favorite musicals.
shareCould not agree with you more! But not just "lovely" - often very HOT! That she often and convincingly portrayed older characters, however, owes more to her "presence" than to her "appearance". She is an under appreciated Great!

If you do the math she was 21. Miss Lansbury was 19 when she made Gaslight. Now that's amazing to me! Still, she was very good none the less for being 21. This was only her third film.
shareActually, if you do the math, the OP is correct. Ms. Lansbury was born in October 1925. Harvey Girls was filmed between January and June of 1945, so she was 19 during the filming. She was 20 when it was released in January 1946. As for Gaslight, it was released in May of 1944, when Ms. Lansbury was 18.
