Similarity to the disney version of 1991?

So are they similar? Besides that this one is a live action non musical?

No. They are nothing alike.

I think that the 1991 animated film does borrow some of the things that Jean Cocteau created for the 1946 version. He was the first (as far as I know) to incorporate a suitor for Belle (Avenant/Gaston) and also use animated/enchanted objects in the Beast's castle. I would have thought Disney would have at least had his name somewhere in the credits since his movie inspired such key features in their movie.

On one of the commentaries on the "La Belle et la Bête" DVD, the historian expressed surprise that there is no acknowledgement or thanks given to Jean Cocteau in the credits for the 1991 animated film.
