TCM is screening it right now
What a magnificent experience to see it again, a pristine print with no breaks. In my humble opinion, this version of Beauty and the Beast is one of the great pieces of cinema ever made.

The movie floored me. I thought it was one of the most amazing films I've ever seen. I just ran out to the video store today and ordered the Criterion Collection DVD set. It's worth it. What a masterpiece.

I watched it tonight for the first time. I'm not really a fan of French cinema but the promos for The Essentials intrigued me. I have to admit it was awesome. It looked amazing and was wonderfully surreal and creepy but still managed to be sweet and moving.
One thing that annoyed me a little was Belle's a hole siblings got no comeuppance. I know that's typical for fairy tales but they were just as bad as the guy who got killed.
I guess I owe thanks to Drew Barrymore for picking the movie. I expect Robert Osbourne to steer me right but I'm a little surprised Drew picked a winner I wasn't already a fan of.
Hi pankoeken,
I love The Essentials but Drew gets on my nerves. She's a sweet girl but I'd prefer Osbourne work with a real cinema expert who could bring more factual information about the films. Still, Beauty and the Beast is a masterpiece and I could watch it over and over again.
She is enthusiastic and is obviously a big movie fan. However, she doesn't bring much to the table other than that. Alec Baldwin was the best co-host IMO. Rose McGowan was even better than Drew although that's not saying much.
shareI so agree with you, pankoeken. Drew is enthusiastic. Baldwin was the best and I'd love TCM to find someone of his caliber to co-host The Essentials.
shareAgain tonight. Seems like a couple times a year.
