I have little book on the making of this movie somewhere. It was either Greta Garbo or Marlene Deitrich who went to the premiere as the date of Cocteau and said this. (I think it was Marlene Dietrich. Greta Garbo was too shy, self-absorbed, and uninterested to have moved herself to leave her Hollywood home.)

It was Garbo. This was said last night by a professor of CUNY Graduate Center who specialises in Surrealist Literature when the film showed in City Cinematheque, CUNY TV. The films show on Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm EST and they repeat on Friday at midnight. Too bad I did not tape the 30 minutes discussion after the film! It was so interesting! This is also one of my favorite films.

Greta Garbo was an introvert who preferred minimum social contacts and have real few friends, and to read books at home than partying and clubbing. It only take an extravert to bash Garbo over that and call her "too shy, self-absorbed, and uninterested".
I'm an introvert myself so I understand her.
