This movie creeped me out, and doesn't hold up well

I just saw it and had a totally different reaction. I think this amazing film transcends time and will never be dated. It is a piece of art that kept me mesmerized from beginning to end.

The movie had a haunting atmosphere in the Beast's castle, which makes absolute sense.

I remembered that it creeped me out in high school, but I couldn't remember why. I just saw it again. The arms holding the candlesticks - eww. The faces looking out from the statues - more eww.

I'm more creeped out by the fact that the Beast was ok with keeping a random woman locked up in his castle against her will while her father was dying, and to ask her each day when she was going to marry him. Somehow he was ok with that whole kidnapping thing, but he also cared enough about her to make sure she was ok with marrying him?

To me this comment is madness. I can't think of any fantasy film as old as this that does hold up as well. It's dark, moody, weird and extremely creative with what it puts up on screen.

I can't really think of a film I've seen like it. It was hypnotic, really.

For me, one of the most eerily beautiful, dreamlike films ever made.
