Filled with wonder, this film amazes me.

This is one of those films that you think of when you think of the artistry of the cinema.

It seems that every frame is bursting at the seams with imagination and tender loving care. Every detail is meticulously thought out, there is nothing left to waste here. The screen is crammed with flourishes and touches that leave me filled with wonder.

There are great performances here. The script is utterly fantastic; it all seems so simple, so inevitable. The set design is peerless. The costumes and makeup are truly inspired. So much about the picture is a marvel.

This movie doesn't cheat the audience; it doesn't rely on some ridiculous effects or some nonsense that detracts from the fantastical elements. You are won over totally and immersed in the world this film depicts. It's mesmerizing, and remains an emotionally devastating experience. It just killed me the first time I saw it 30 years ago, and it works the same way on me now, if not more so.

I would love to see this on a BIG screen. Like an IMAX or something similar. Could you imagine that? Walking down that hallway with those human candelabras? That scene at the dinner table? I would gladly go see this on the big screen instead of some mediocre comic book movie any day of the week.

I saw this film at an art cinema in the Chicago area way back in the 60's and it truly amazed me. There was a small discussion about this film on the Classic Film board several hours ago. I was never a fan of the typical Disney Beauty and the Beast stories but "La Belle et la Bete" was just like magic. I'm so glad the first time I saw it was at a movie theater, its hard to read the subtitles on a TV screen. I was totally mesmerized by the "beast" and felt a lot of sympathy for him. I would love to own a good DVD of this film, its hardly ever shown on TV.

This film is a stunning masterpiece. It is so beautiful...truly a moving painting.

Someone above mentioned Disney....aargh! Of course, these two films shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath. I ABHOR all things Disney. They're nothing but plastic crap.

But this film.....it is elegant, surreal, magical, and beautiful.

Completely disagree. There's a reason Disney's version was the first and only animated film ever nominated for a Best Picture oscar.

I love both versions and don't believe either is inherently better than they other.

Can't stop the signal.

Beauty and the Beast was the 1st, but it isn't the only animated film to be nominated for Best Picture. Toy Story 3 was nominated for Best Picture in 2011. I believe Up! was nominated for Best Picture as well

The first time I saw this, I was in high school and it was on PBS in the middle of the night. I didn't know anything about the film or what to expect. It completely blew my mind.
