Johnny Friendly in black face....

Lee J. Cobb looked pretty intimidating as Kralahome..He tried his best to pass off as a Siamese native.....I guess it was considered great acting to play another race entirety then. Paul Muni comes to mind in "The Good Earth,"although that was 10yrs earlier

Yes, in theater and film it was considered a challenge to play another race and do it well and convincingly. Like Shakespearean actors playing Otello. In opera they cast by voice and acting ability so you have singers of all races playing characters of other races. I thought Lee Cobb was excellent as the Kralahome. He had such gravitas.

Well, the city's being built and I'm winning this game. So don't interrupt us with trifles.
