Does anyone know the name of the song in They Were Expendable that Donna Reed and John Wayne danced to?

shareMarcheta was the name but that is all I know, can't find a copy of this song anywhere......
shareHi ...
Marcheta was published in the 1920s, so it isn't available anymore. I have a copy of the sheet music, but I'm a TWX collector and I'd give up my car before I'd part with it.
If you search
lyrics marcheta
(I used Google) you'll be able to read the lyrics. It's a sad song about a lost love, and by using it John Ford gives us a sneaky little hint about where Rusty and Sandy are headed in their romance--nowhere.
Mario Lanza sings a great version of Marcheta, but the record's hard to find.
Re the song the crew sings at the dinner party--this is Dear Old Girl, another old, sad song about a lost love.
And, while I'm at it, the poem Duke recites at the funeral of his two crewmen near the end of the movie is called Requiem, and I believe Robert Louis Stevenson wrote it.
Probably more than you ever wanted to know, but once I start I can't stop.
Thank you for the information. I enjoyed the extra input. I really appreciate it.

tHANKS.I did the search for Marcheta lyrics and found the recording by Perry Como and Mario Lanza
Thank you for the info. Greatly appreciated. I remember this song from the '30s. I understand it was written in the '20s. Thanks again. I really can't thank you enough.
shareJust a beautiful song, I remembering hearing it on the old Fred Waring TV show way back in the early fifties.
shareThanks to all for the great postings. I love Donna Reed and cry everytime I see her in that dumpy dungaree uniform.
You will find on youtube.com all the recordings you could like or hate under Marcheta. Personally, I like the slower versions as in the movie.
John Wayne never looked more miserable drinking alone as Marcheta reminds him of days gone by...jg
I too prefer the slow versions. Perry Como has the version I like best, but that was recorded back in the fifties. The album is " perry Como sings just for you ". This album is only available on an LP record. It might be available at Amazon but only as a used item. I guess what I would really want is for someone to come out with a brand new cd of Marcheta.
shareTry Montovani's instrumental version. You can listen to it on Spotify for free.
