Now in all honesty how effective were PT Boats?


I mean, 'Expendable' they were shown sticking a torp in the side of Japanese Heavy Cruiser & causing effective damage. However, it's pretty well know US torps were crummy early in the war. So I was wondering how effective they really were in harassing the Japanese fleet.

And while we're at it we can probably factor in the effectiveness of PT/Fast Attack Boats in the Med & 'Channel' Coast from all sides as well. Sure they made a few spectacular 'coups'(the sinking of the LSTs during exercise Tiger) but overall...how would they be considered?
