Darryl Hickman says Tierney was Ellen
On the DVD commentary, Darryl Hickman tries to pull his punches when talking about working with Gene Tierney, but he implies she was the type that really did want him to drown in the lake.

I agree. Darryl Hickman's commentary in the DVD was horrible, completely worthless as to this film. Made it all about him and his childhood career, and who he knew many, many decades ago, and very little about the movie. Seemed bitter, as his movie career didn't take off too much after adulthood. Guess he had a position for a period of time in some way with the TV studios later. Trashed Tierney in every way, except he did say she was a very gorgeous woman, which she was.

What a bunch of morons! How in the world are Hickman's (a very talented
actor, by the way)comments "worthless" because he outed GT as a bitch?
Why on EARTH would he lie about something like that? There is no reason
to disbelieve his experiences of working with this (let's face it, folks)
mentally ill and moody actress. Just because you weirdos worship this
beautiful actress, doesn't mean working with her was "heaven", does it?
HE was there; YOU were not. Good fu#$ing grief.
Do your research and have an ounce of compassion. An evolved man would at least try to understand what caused her health and personal problems which must have greatly affected her day to day work. What did Hickman do here that a hundred other young actors could have done, and probably better? And what other performances does he leave as his legacy ? He could have been a typical teenage pain in the neck and perhaps she had the guts to tell him so, so he did not like her. Did you ever stop to think of that ? Vincent Price worked with her three times and had only good things to say about her.
There are always three sides to a story. His, hers, and the truth.

I agree(luverofmovies). There is more on this in the thread on the "Schickel and Hickman commentary"(below).

I have listened to the commentary, and was surprised at how full of himself and dismissive of others Hickman was. If he was the same pain-in-the-ass when he was fourteen, I wouldn't blame Tierney for not taking to him.
shareHe came off as supremely annoying onscreen, the sort of child that anyone would want to lock in the basement, send to an orphanage, or if all else failed... drown.
I don't think he was a good enough actor to fake that level of genuine twerpitude, I think he was an annoying kid in real life and that's why he was cast, and who can blame Tierney for being irritated by someone irritating. She had enough to deal with.
