Did he love Leslie?
It kind of seemed like Jimmy stayed with her out of pity. And maybe she doesn't even care, as long as he stays with her. But Leslie didn't seem to add much to the relationship, she just layed in bed all day waiting for Jimmy to come see her. It's no wonder he was smitten by the princess. I guess it turned out all right in the end, because Leslie regained the use of her legs, but they could have made her a much more interesting character throughout the film, more self-reliant, rather than being so dependent on Jimmy.
