Mildred Natwick

My favorite performance in this wonderful movie is by Mildred Natwick as Mrs. Minnett. This being only her second screen role, she did a brilliant job. I get a lump in my throat right now, thinking of her line "And if my man could rise from his grave, he would find me pretty, yes he would find me pretty!"

I didn't like her after she told Laura not to expect anyone to love her.

I think she was trying to prepare Laura for the life she expected her to have (which belies the sixth sense she has elsewhere). She is a great actress, with a great face.

Who can forget her performance in Danny Kaye's Court Jester ? "The chalice with the palace..."

Yes, she was wonderful in this film; she was the backbone behind it and the glue that held it together.

And her character had a sixth sense about everything right before it was to occur. Brilliant but subtle.

This talented actress had the long, distinguished career she deserved. The widow in "The Quiet Man", the doomed mother in "3 Godfathers", "The Snoop Sisters"! We're so lucky to have Mildred Natwick in so many of our favourite movies.

She was so touching in "The Trouble With Harry", as the lonely spinster who sets her sights on Edmund Gwenn.

I agree with you, she gives a beautiful performance. My mother introduced me to this film when I was very young, and sometimes it's hard to watch without emotions welling up within me.
My mother has been gone for 12 years now....

Caught it on TCM last night...I love her, too, and will check out the other films you've all mentioned.

As above, she has always been a favorite of mine since seeing her in the "The Court Jester"....

This movie is obviously very special and even more so to you; nothing could take the beauty of this film away from you. <3

My favorite Mildred Natwick role is as Jane Fonda's mother in "Barefoot in the Park". She steals every scene she's in and that's no mean feat considering she's up against Fonda, Robert Redford and Charles Boyer. She was an incredible actress.

Thanks bunnymama, for mentioning "Barefoot in the Park". (I thought I would have to!) MN was nominated for an Oscar (BSA) for that role. She was brilliantly funny and warm. She MADE that film.

This was the film that introduced me to Mildred Natwick and is probably my favourite of her roles I've seen so far. I like the way she is psychically attuned to the cottage. Has anyone seen her as the eccentric medium Madame Arcati in 'Blithe Spirit?' I would like to know what she made of that role.
