PBS 'Remake' in late 80's
I am trying to find out the name of a "remake" that was aired on PBS in the late 80's of "The Enchanted Cottage" but with a twist. The plot was similar but there was a triangle introduced in that a young drifter was used as a go-between by the veteran and the young woman. Also, it was set in more modern times but on a rural farm. If I remember correctly, the drifter had an urequited crush on the veteran and was not too pleased about having to deliver love notes between the other two.
I realize this is not really a "remake" but the main story was very similar in that the veteran was scarred from fighting in a war and did not have the self-confidence to approach the woman himself. The film included a mystical cottage where the veteran and woman finally get together and are "transformed" while dancing and the woman falls in love with the veteran. I don't remember what happened to the drifter.
It is a full-length movie but was produced by a PBS outlet similar to American Playhouse.
Any idea?
