okay

I really liked the film right up until that woman shows up. I love the internal dialogue when Haskell and the main character are in the car. And it's very interesting that the film makes it seem completely rational to hide a body of a man who accidentally dies. But after that woman shows up I sort of lost track and stopped caring about the main character. The death by phone scene is ridiculous. In a half-good way.

I wouldn't call it a classic. It is just an interesting small film that we should pay attention to.

I beg to differ...

For me, Ann Savage IS the film.

'Mister, you'll pop into jail so fast it'll give ya the bends!'

"I want you to live with me and die with me and everything with me!"

I agree with the OP in that the first half was more interesting than the second. The woman was so over-the-top that it's hard to believe Al would go along with her, after a while. Still a fun noir, and the phone scene fits well with the mess he's gotten into, even though her tying the cord around her neck to commit suicide was a bit beyond belief, even considering how weird her character was.

"Did you make coffee...? Make it!"--Cheyenne.

She did not commit suicide. She was drunk and inadvertently got tangled in the long cord, then flopped on the bed. When he pulled the cord in an attempt to rip it out of the phone or yank the phone away from her, he was strangling her but didn't realize it. Weirder things have happened.

the incidents that occurred to this guy reminded of bogarts fate in "dark passage", didn't it. i really like movies where the lead narrates his role, have you noticed that never happens any more but is quite common in older flicks, it's like this could be transferred directly to radio 📻, there's almost constant background music, then he starts playing piano 🎹, so that background tune has to pause a while, hehe. real cool dialogue. some of the scenes early on seemed cut. i don't recognise a single actor even though i like movies from this era, and how about the running time, just about an hour, that's short for even this time, neat little movie, some seem to like it less the longer it runs and many are disappointed at the ending. they say this was filmed in less than a week, how about that, like roger corman and edward d wood jr shot movies. notice how high up they wear their pants, like that "family guy" spoof.

you look mean as hell,
in a british nanny way,
scares me half to death,
but charm like no one else,
when you smile and turn on that charm,
i realise it was worth hangin on.
