DVD release July 10. 2007

MGM is releasing The Woman in the Window on July 10, 2007 for a list price of $20. This is a must-have for my film noir collection. I already have Scarlet Street on DVD, released by Alpha Video. I know some people don't like the ending of The Woman in the Window but I'm OK with it because I liked Robinson's character and wanted him to escape from the mess he was in.

LONG overdue DVD release I was lucky to find a copy for rent at a video store about three years ago. The copy dissapeared when I went to rent it again. Now if they could release a better version of Scarlet Street on DVD one done by a big name studio.

they did. you need to buy the one with the red cover. the one of the painting with Eddie on the right side.

that is the remastered Scarlet Street. its like $25. the other Scarlet Street DVD is like $10.

I just bought the remastered Scarlett Street. Although Kino didn't digitally remove defects like Criterion does, the improvement over the Alpha Video DVD is impressive. This movie must be in the public domain. A blurb on the back cover of the DVD said "New high-definition digital transfer from the 35mm negative preserved by the Library of Congress".

I understand that the "The Stranger" DVD has been also vastly cleaned up.

Agreed, the Kino release is superior, but I didn't find any flaws. In fact, I found it just as good as many of the Fox, Warner, etc, or even Criterion prints I've seen recently.

Along with Kino's "Scarlet Street" one may want to take a look at "House by the River" also released by the same. An earlier American Lang --his first or second with Skidrow I think-- that is much more impressionistic, if not hollywood-polished, than his later American works.

They are also releasing The Stranger and a host of other film noirs... Does anyone knoww if there's a press release with specs on each movie or something?
