Close to my favorite noir film...
but that is still going to be Touch of Evil.
That said, this is a great movie. I loved the ending which some people apparently hated. I think they forget that this was 1944 so the idea was fresh. And there are so many moments during the film which absolutely justify the ending and I don't just mean logically justify the ending. There are moments which justify the entire reasoning behind the nature of the dream itself and what unfolded in the dream.
Anyhow, I liked this better than The Big Heat which is, nonetheless, also a great film.
Up next: Scarlet Street!
(I'm working my way through Fritz Lang films.)
