Joan Bennett

I love EGR, but Joan Bennett absolutely made this movie for me! She nailed her part in every way. I like the fact that when EGR first meets her when he's admiring the painting, she actually has a few forehead lines, which would no doubt be air-brushed out if this film were made today. She was gorgeous, but realistically so. I grew up frightened to death by the cheesy but wonderful "Dark Shadows"--I'm so glad to see some of her earlier, terrific work!

Great movie; ending and all!

Sorry, i thought Joan Bennett's acting was a bit stiff...wheather it was her fault or the script...so she was the weak link...the dialogue between her and Duryea...was bland and forcefull...all the others were excellent...the ending sucked.

Yes, I think, Joan was a little too melodramatic. The ending reminded me of the Marlon Brando film: The Night of the Following Day.

joan bennett is a hidden treasure.she was a great actress and gorgeous as well.
in "wedding present" with cary grant she was really funny and proved she
was great at screwball comedy keeping up with grant every step of the way.
too bad she didn't make more films in this genre.

Joan Bennett was the sister of Constance Bennett, both beautiful women !

"when EGR first meets her when he's admiring the painting, she actually has a few forehead lines"

I thought she looked much better in the painting than in person when she walks up to EGR on the street. Maybe it was the odd hat she had on, but I would swear that she looked about 15 years older than the woman in the painting (and it wasn't because of the forehead lines!).

But then in her apartment and with the despicable hat done away with, she was much closer to the image in the painting (except for how the hair was done).
