This movie started my love of classic movies!
I can remember seeing this movie on TV as a child, probably in the early 80s. It was nothing like I had ever seen before! The lush technicolor sets, beautiful costumes, stunning Virginia Mayo. I was familiar with Bob Hope but had never seen him as a young actor and I thought he was funny and engaging. It was the perfect movie for a young child to be introduced to classic films because it was a little silly and slapstick. The scene with the map on Walter Brennan's stomach stayed with me, and also the final scene where they address the camera and break the 4th wall.
So here I am today, a huge fan of classic movies, having moved on to pre-code and films noir as my favorites. But I would have never gotten here without The Princess and the Pirate!
