One of those memory lane films...

This movie is a wonderful movie to put on when you just want something that will entertain...nothing too deep, nor too funny. But that is perfect. If this movie tried to be deeper or funnier it would lose it's magic. And make no mistake, it is a funny movie. But, the movie also retains an element of true old-movie swashbuckling adventure...couple that with the lush color of the era's movies and some of it's biggest stars and you have such a treat.

Virginia Mayo is adorable as the Princess, and of course, Bob Hope is...well...Bob Hope. Wlater Brennan is always good as well.

I fell for this movie as a young child, watching it on TV. I would scour the TV Guide for several of my favorite movies each week, and this was one of them. (for those too young to understand that...no DVD or VHS...the only way to see a movie was for it to be aired on TV...and we did not have nearly the number of stations as today).

I recently showed this movie to my teenage children, and they liked it. (my kids have been shown the magic of old movies however, so they tend to like more old stuff than most)...I was excited that my kids also saw the magic this movie contains.

Not too sure why the movie is rated so low. I know it is not some relevent piece of film that will have any kind of social impact...just a romantic comedy about pirates...but it is fun, and enjoyable.

I agree this movie is exactly what the movies of today lack and that is everything!

I love Bob Hope.

Even though I am only 35 I hate the movies of today. I am addicted to classic film. I would rather watch the worst movie made in the 1930's then any George Clooney piece of junk today.

Long live Bob Hope and the legends of Hollywood.
Down with all those actresses and actors of today!

This Movie and others of it's genre show exactly what is wrong with the movies of the last 20 years. This was fun and entertaining. 'nuff said.

Yes, I am older,62, but I know what I like in an entertaining movie and one that I find that insults my senses both visual and moral (Eyes Wide Shut and hundreds others).

I agree with u wholeheartedly and I am 30 years your junior. Movies today are awful and so are the actors and actresses that are in them. Hollywood insults our intelligence by having these clones playing all the parts. They all look the same, esp. the women. There are no good character actors anymore and if there were, they have disgraced themselves in some Judd Apatow film. I hate that guy.

I grew up in NYC and this movie used to be shown on channel 11 on a Sunday afternoon. I miss this and Danny Kaye movies , which are not all available on dvd. Great memories.
