portrait of Fanny
The portrait of Fanny commissioned by Job is clearly modeled after Giovani Boldini's 1911 " Mrs. Phillip Lydig " ( the fabulous Rita Lydig ) The portraits are very similar in composition and style ; the coiffure and gown , position of the subjects arm and the placement of the sitters chair are remarkably similar . Lydig was a celebrated and tragic beauty of the Edwardian era and a fixture of New York society of the era in which Fanny would have resided in New York . After a substantial divorce settlement ( the largest recorded at the time ) Mrs. Lydig lived a life of consumate luxury until dying after several ill fated love affairs of a prolonged illness in Paris in the late '20's .
