masturbation reference

I don't remember the line exactly but when I first saw this movie I was surprised by the following exchance:
FANNY: Did you think about me often, Mr. Conderly?
CONDERLY: Once in a while, when I was in the shower.

reply

Actually, the line went like this: "Jim, do you ever think about the old days here at Gramercy Park?". Jim Conderley (played by John Alexander) replies "Now and then--in the shower.".

I must have seen this movie 10 times over the years, but yesterday was the first time I ever really noticed that line. I laughed out loud! Can't believe the censors let that one pass.

clearly you need to watch more 1940's movies then.

I saw the documentary "the Celluloid Closet" on coded talk in 1940's etc. movies. One was a scene from "Red River." Montgomery Cliff and John Ireland have target practice with six guns. Ireland says to Cliff, with a smile, "I'll show you mine if you show me yours." Cliff was a bisexual in real life and was 28 but looked much younger in this movie.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

reply

Montgomery Clift was not bisexual--he was gay.

You may as well go to perdition in ermine; you're sure to come back in rags. Katharine Hepburn

reply

Nope, Clift was bisexual. He had sexual relationships with both women and men.

reply

Yes, wonder how that was received back in the day...
