Clang , clang, clang went the trolley

Ding, ding, ding went the bell. Zing, zing, zing went my heartstrings as we started for Huntington Dell.

One of my favorite songs from a classic musical. One of Judy's best songs.

It's one of my favorites too. I often rewind and watch it two or three times. The whole scene is beautiful.

The song was inspired by an old postcard with the opening line as a caption.

Trolleys were beautiful and beloved by the public as cheap clean transportation but they were killed by a genuine conspiracy between an oil company and a tire company to replace them with buses.

what an annoying song that is

so many movies, so little time

Unpopular opinion: the only memorable song in this movie.

What?! No way! At the very least “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is so memorable it’s now a holiday standard. I personally love “The Boy Next Door” too.

I agree!

Yes, how could anyone think “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” wasn't memorable?

I'd add to the list:

The title song, "Meet Me in St Louis, Louis". Hard to forget it after Alonzo's exasperated reaction hearing it on his return from work! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yg-2ncgmHZg

The wonderful duet, "You and I", with Anna on the piano: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljxuSgvkKSE

"The Boy Next Door" is a minor classic, later covered by Frank Sinatra among others: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVD7mVsCfaA

The cakewalk, "Under the Bamboo Tree" (despite, or maybe because of, Margaret O'Brien's hilariously tone deaf singing): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGqE291qBoA

Plenty of memorable songs in my book.
