Was Clifton Webb too gay for that role?

Gene Tierney was so young and beautiful for this film it is hard to not believe that any man would not fall for her. Any hetero man.

Clifton Webb is just so obviously prissy gay. Just not believable he was in love with Laura. It is Dana Andrews he would have been hot for.

Of course Waldo Lydecker is gay. His fascination with & love for Laura is in his desire to mold her into an ideal object, one that's a reflection of his perceived genius & superiority to others. He wants to own her by shaping her according to his wishes. Marrying her would simply be another part of ownership.

Quit feeding this troll baiting closet case.
He is just showing us how he pushes the wish before the thought.

It's not trolling dummy. The actor Clifton Webb was gay in real life and very obviously gay in his mannerisms. I did not say there was anything wrong with it.

It is a more complex character I suppose than the Wally guy in Mildred Pierce who keeps coming on to Mildred.

LOL, didn't Shelby tell Waldo to "get on all fours,it was the only time he was quiet". Wow that sounds like an illusion to homosexuality. It even got pass the censors of the day! That remark shocked me!
