plot hole

Laura drove her car to her cottage on Friday. The cops visited her on Sat or Sun and no one was there. She says she was on a long walk. Where was the car ??

reply

Where was the car ??

There was no mention of her car.

But, SHE wasn't present when the police came looking for her. That was the point. If they thought that she was in the vicinity (because her car was there), then they would have had to look elsewhere.

The screenplay doesn't go into that probability. It's not really a plot hole.

reply

I guess she could have driven her car to another area and then took her long walk in the woods.

reply

Where was the car ??

Just remembered: She told McPherson that she kept her car in a "private garage."

I imagine in someone's yard, rather than a commercial parking garage, as she was out in the country.

Also shooting someone in a busy NYC apartment building and no one saw a thing. Very risky.

reply

The car does pose a bit of a problem in this. I notice that Fox dispensed with the car when they did it on TV in 1955. In that Laura goes to her weekend retreat by public transport. Well most of the way.

reply

That is a goof not a plot hole.

reply

Neither a goof nor a plot hole.

As I stated above, She told McPherson that she kept her car in a "private garage."

I imagine in someone's yard, rather than a commercial parking garage, as she was out in the country.

Seems perfectly logical to me.

reply

the private garage was where she parked her car in the city. where the car was parked in the country was never addressed. it is a plot hole.

reply

When the issue of the "missing car" is addressed, she specifically says she parked in a private garage. They're talking about her time at the country house. How do you get "the city" out of that?

Watch the film again.

reply

i am sure that a small town in upstate new york in the 1940s would not have a parking garage.

reply

She said "a private" garage. That could be in someone's yard.

Laura took a train, I believe the 7:26, out to the country. Then she went to the private garage where she kept her car, got in it, and drove to her country house. McPherson wants to know where she was on Saturday. He doesn’t care where the car was, apparently. If the car was at the country house but she wasn’t, somebody could have picked her up and taken her somewhere.

reply

that doesn't explain where the car was.

reply

Laura stated quite plainly that she kept her car in a "private garage." That's where the car was.

This has already been pointed out to you. But, for some strange reason, you refuse to accept it.

reply

its contrived. no one would do that.

reply

It's perfectly logical and normal. You just don't want to admit that you're wrong.

Ownership of a car was never mentioned "in the city." You just can't admit you're wrong. Watch the film again.

reply

they removed it in a future version because it's not logical.

reply

Desperate, aren't you?
