Smoking Then: Not a New Topic But...

I wanted to say that my father, who I adored and hung around in his workshop all the time, smoked about 4 packs a day when I was a child. I had childhood asthma then, which I grew out of, thank goodness. Years later, I read a report that said children of smokers were much more likely to have asthma. My father had quit smoking many years before I learned that. I never mentioned it to him when I read that because I didn't want to make him feel bad about perhaps causing my asthma by something he didn't know at the time.

This positively infantile preoccupation with bosoms!Terry-Thomas about US 1963.Hasnt changed much!

I grew up in the '50s and '60s, and all the adults I was aware of smoked. My dad smoked about four packs a day, and my mom probably smoked two. People smoked in restaurants, theaters, doctors' offices, grocery stores, and the public library. For some lucky reason, neither I nor my three brothers ended up smoking.
