Deleted Scene(s)

I see from the cast listing on imdb that a scene or scenes featuring "Lancaster Corey" were deleted. I wonder if that footage is in a vault at 20th Century Fox, or if there are, at least, some stills out there. Perhaps such a scene would have shown McPherson inquiring about the portrait...he leaves, and Waldo (waiting in the shadows) walks in moments later to inquire about McPherson's visit. I'm sorry for the deletion, as Grant Mitchell ("The Man Who Came To Dinner", "Arsenic And Old Lace") would have provided a perhaps not as haughty, curmudgeonly foil to Waldo. He played with Gene Tierney a year later, albeit uncredited, in Fox's "Leave Her To Heaven".

"No, I don't like to cook, but I have a chicken in the icebox, and you're eating it."

There's a deleted scene on the blu-ray. But it had the disclaimer that it was a montage of Laura's rise in society & was deleted due to the resentment it could cause due to the times of that day.

If I get the time I'll look at it again & see if he is in it. But it would be minimal screen time.

Hi, B-B.

At the link below, you'll find an extensive and very interesting article on the various cuts and changes, and the stories behind them. Stills are even extant from some of those cut scenes.

Don't miss the link at the bottom of the page, "The Mystery Of Laura's First Ending."

I sometimes wonder if, between the stuff Mamoulian shot, and what Preminger shot and didn't use, they might have been able to construct almost a whole different film!

Poe! You are...avenged!

That looks seriously juicy. Thank you! This film is endlessly fascinating.

I got the television version from way back when, when FMC was running those old television plays. If I find it in my videos (yes, it was so long ago it was video not dvd) I'll get it out and check the ending.

And I've got to read the book!
