at alisotom,
and while we're remaking this movie, why don't we just repaint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel with a "better" version of that?
What's the big deal about a remake? Yes, some remakes/reboots/etc. end up WORSE than the original, but that doesn't mean that all of them are bad and it also doesn't mean it will tarnish the original. I think sometimes they end up good. (can't name any of them off the top of my head. Can someone list some examples of reboots/remakes/etc. work being on par or better than the original, whichever medium?)
Also, if it does do good, it opens up the new generation, to the original. I wouldn't have even heard of
Laura if I didn't hear it was being remade. So, the fact that it is even being remade helped me find out about the original, and I want to see the original now before the new version is released.
In a way, it provides promotion, media exposure, and publicity for the original, whether it turns out good or bad, it helps people who haven't heard of it get exposed to it/find out about it, etc. create an interest in the public for the original.
I want to comment more but I'm tired. Anyway, that's just my opinion on why it can/should be okay to remake, reboot, re-imagine, etc., a work of art.
