Please could anyone tell me if there´s a transcript of that classic comedy sketch anywhere online!!!!! I can´t believe what a class little routine that was and how little recognition it´s had....
Anyway, if you know where I could find a transcript, midi file, mpeg, anything then I´d be eternally greatful.
Most of it is transcribed in a book called 'Disintegrating the Musical' by Arthur Knight, in which he talks in some detail about this type of comedy routine, known as 'Indefinite Talk', which was popularly performed by African American comedians in the 1920's and 1930's, and involved them rarely finishing their sentences, due to being interrupted by the other, who, nevertheless understands what the first is talking about. Supposedly originated by Flournoy Miller, who is one of the featured comedians in this scene, it was also performed by other African American comedians, usually wearing blackface.
I don't know if there is anything online about it though.
Flournoy Miller also worked on stage with Mantan Moreland, who carried on "Indefinite Talk" with another partner, Ben Carter. Look for a "Charlie Chan" flick called THE SCARLET CLUE. Moreland and Carter do two "i.t." routines.
