why does Fred A keep singing romantic love songs when there is only a man in the room?? Long Road, and the one in the diner.. was it Just you and Me ?

I tuned in to the movie near the end, so Fred may have sung a song in a diner earlier that I didn't see. The one I saw him sing, "One More for the Road," is a 'torch' song that he sings in a bar. He is not singing it to his girlfriend, but to Joe the bartender. According to the song's lyrics, it's only Joe and Fred in the bar, so he offers to buy the bartender a drink. "Set 'em up, Joe." He is singing about his loneliness and as a good bye to the girl he doesn't expect to see again.
