wife beating?
I felt a little uncomfortable when that bloke at the ship yard said'he'll give her a busted nose'...was this supposed to be funny? Not very twee for a forties song and dance film.He looked 'shifty' as well.

sharewell, movies of the 1930s and 1940s were filled with jokes about keeping the wife in line with a little smacking around. guess its just a sign of those times, like many others accepted beliefs back in the old days.
(see the Bride Walks Out, and SO many others.)
What? I thought it was hilarious. Would have been better if he would have belted her one right then and there. The movie actually started making me uncomfortable for a long stretch after that, but then it settled back down when we were treated to Mrs. Leo Roskowski and any mental images of Bataan we could muster. I think a death march trumps a wife beating (although I don't expect today's viewers to even know where Bataan is, much less what happened there).
