A great film. It left me feeling very creepy, though, which I suppose was part of the intent.

Does anyone know if she was influenced by Carl Jung and his essays on dreaming and the unconscious mind? One of his essays mentions a childhood fear of a priest dressed all in black walking near his home - I immediately thought of that when I saw the figure in the black hood (with the mirrored face) walking outside the woman's home...of course, other interpretations are that the figure is merely another representation of the woman, for her mirrored face would only be a reflection of the woman herself.

Who knows! It's all supposed to be a personal, subjective film, right?

wow we sure took a long time to do that didn't we.

definitely. I love all of Maya Deren's films. They're all so original and beautiful. It's amazing how someone could have thought of something as incredible as this.

incredibly beautiful, and creepy at the same time. part of it was the eerie music and the imagery of knives and a grime-reaper like figure.

Shows what can be achieved with a hand-held, a few hundred bucks, and a wonderful imagination. Bravo Maya!

This is one of the most haunting films I know of ... I find myself thinking about it a lot, and yet I still don't know what to make of it as a whole. It gives you the intriguing but terrifying sensation of looking into another person's nightmarish thoughts, and it really stays with you. I can definitely see how Lynch and many other directors were influenced by this film.
