Lena Horne?
Just read that this will be shown on TCM May 21st in a tribute to Lena. They say it was her favorite film. Go no?
shareI heard Robert Osborne say that John Garfield was her favorite actor, and this was her favorite film of his. I'm not sure if The Fallen Sparrow was Lena Horne's all-time fave, it could have been, but this is a very good film.

also, she was an avid tcm fan and requested that they play john garfield films more often. i completely agree with her, he's one of my favorite actors.
shareAlthough I get why TCM did this, it irks me, as I had set Tivo to record "The Lavender Hill Mob." I go to watch it, and instead I see Robert Osborne give his explaination of how this was one of Lena's favorite films, etc., so I watch it anyway. I got completely caught up in it, only to have the Tivo stop recording at the time Lavender Hill Mob was supposed to end. (I've subsequently set my Tivo to always record five minutes over). So, I ended at the point where evil Walter Slezak and John Garfield are confronting each other, after he has given the drink to Garfield to make him unable to exercise free will.
So, can anyone tell me what happened? Netflix does not have this movie and a You Tube search was unsuccessful in trying to find the last few minutes of this movie.

skaas tells kit that he killed ab. he made a deal with one of the help (a cook or cleaner, i don't remember which) to quickly sneak out of the apartment. also, he reveals that it was otto that murdered his friend louie. while he is talking, kit manages to get enough strength to pull out his gun and kill skaas.
he meets toni downstairs and she tells him this sob story about her daughter being kidnapped and if she didn't do everything they said they would kill her. before the police arrive, they make plans to meet in chicago. however, he gets news that she plans on going to lisbon, where he has hidden the flag. he and an inspector go to the airport just as she is boarding the plane. she's arrested before takeoff and kit takes her seat.
Thank you! It was just at the denoument and I really wanted to know what happened. I felt that Toni was not what she appeared to be, and turns out I was right.
